Kinzua Bridge State Park
The fifth park I visited on October 11, 2003, was Kinzua Bridge State Park. I knew that this park would be very popular, because earlier in the summer a tornado went through the park and destroyed most of the Kinzua Viaduct, which crosses the valley within the park. Finding the park was not really a problem, and I didn't see much traffic into the park road, so I thought that maybe I would be wrong. Once I got across the railroad tracks and into the park, I could see a line of cars waiting to turn into the overflow parking lot. I made it into the parking lot and found a spot along the woods. I walked back the trail and to the overlook at took several pictures of the collapsed viaduct. The part of the overlook I was on was not too crowded, the overlook further down though was packed with people and with more people coming in from behind I didn't want to spend too much time trying to get any more pictures. I hiked back to the parking lot and exited the park easier than I had entered. I pulled off to the side of the road and took my notes there. On the way back to Mt. Jewett, I noticed at least 2 yard sales, proclaiming that all proceeds were going to the Bridge Reconstruction Fund.
